This method describes the construction of a GBE wall in which the external concrete leaf is suspended at the base of the wall and supported by localised concrete corbels.
To make the method shown in this document easier to understand, the insertion of GBE spacers used with formwork systems incorporating tie rods has intentionally been omitted from the explanatory diagrams.
This method must be adapted as necessary to comply with the installation recommendations, particularly the safety requirements, specified by the suppliers of the equipment and materials used to construct a GBE wall.
Phase 1:
-
Tip: provide a starter at the base of the wall to facilitate positioning of the formwork panels and help limit grout leakage.
-
Position the internal formwork panel.
-
Install the structural reinforcement using conventional reinforced-concrete construction methods.
Phase 2:
-
Prepare the insulation panels. This operation can be carried out in parallel with the other site activities.
-
Form openings through the insulation at the base of the wall to allow concrete to pass through during casting, thereby creating localised concrete corbels connecting the internal concrete leaf to the external concrete leaf.
-
NB: the dimensions and spacing of the localised concrete corbels must be determined by the structural engineering consultant.
-
Insert the GBE internal connectors and external connectors.
Phase 3:
-
Position the insulation panels with the GBE components assembled beforehand.
-
Install the reinforcement within the concrete corbels in accordance with the dimensions determined by the structural engineering consultant.
-
Install the reinforcement for the external concrete leaf.
-
At the base of the wall, install sealed formwork matching the width of the external concrete leaf.
Phase 4:
-
Position the external formwork panel and concrete placing hatches, then tighten the formwork in accordance with the formwork manufacturer's recommendations.
-
Place the concrete simultaneously for the internal and external concrete leaves.
Phase 5:
-
Strip the formwork.
-
NB: the two localised concrete corbels remain within the GBE wall and are not visible once the wall has been completed.
